If you're a digital nomad planning to travel across Europe in 2026 or 2027, this checklist will help you pack efficiently. It covers everything you need to move seamlessly within the Schengen zone: essential tech, key documents, adaptable clothing for different seasons, and the right power adapters. Europe demands careful planning, especially if you're balancing remote work with frequent travel between countries with varying climates and regulations.

This list is designed for long-term stays, focusing on versatility and compliance with legal requirements (such as Schengen travel insurance or documentation for stays exceeding 90 days). It prioritizes what you need to work remotely without sacrificing comfort or mobility.

How to use this list in Foco

Import these tasks into Foco as a 'work' named 'Europe Packing'. Use Panorama mode to view them alongside other projects (like 'Remote Work' or 'Schengen Paperwork') and assign different colors to each. In Foco mode, filter only this work to focus on packing. Use the Kanban view to organize tasks by category (Documents, Tech, Clothing, etc.) or the Calendar view if you have specific deadlines (like your flight date or insurance renewal).

  • Check passport validity (minimum 6 months from entry into Schengen)
  • Apply for a Schengen visa or digital nomad visa if required by your country of origin (check processing times at the relevant embassy)

  • Pack a lightweight laptop with long battery life (e.g., MacBook Air, Dell XPS, or Lenovo ThinkPad)
  • Bring an external hard drive or SSD for work backups (minimum 1TB)
  • Include a universal type C/F power adapter (used in most of Europe) and a high-capacity power bank (20,000 mAh)
  • Pack noise-canceling headphones with a microphone for calls (e.g., Sony WH-1000XM5 or AirPods Pro)
  • Bring a portable 4G/5G router (optional, for areas with poor connectivity)
  • Pack versatile clothing for all seasons: thermal layers, a waterproof jacket, convertible pants, and comfortable walking shoes
  • Include a travel-sized toiletry kit (max 100 ml per container for carry-on luggage)
  • Bring a 40-45L backpack as carry-on luggage (complies with most low-cost airline size limits)
  • Pack an extra foldable bag for shopping or day trips
  • Include a TSA-approved lock for your backpack and an anti-puncture cover for checked luggage (if applicable)
  • Bring basic medications (pain relievers, anti-diarrheal, band-aids) and prescriptions if you take regular medication
  • Prepare an international vaccination card if traveling to areas with specific requirements (e.g., yellow fever)
