Personal budget template

The feeling of "I do not know where my money goes" is almost never one big expense, it is many small ones that add up in a way that stings: subscriptions you no longer use, meals out, impulse buys. You do not need a complicated system to get a handle on it, just stopping once a month to look plainly at what comes in and what goes out.

A personal budget is not about denying yourself everything, it is about deciding where you want to spend instead of finding out at the end of the month. This template walks you through the key steps: log income, list fixed costs, estimate variable ones, set savings aside before you spend and review at the end whether the plan held. Repeating it each month is what builds the habit.

A look at your accounts every month

These are the steps the template includes:

• Write down the month's income, salary and any extras
• List your fixed expenses like rent and bills
• Estimate your variable expenses for food and leisure
• Set money aside for savings as soon as you get paid
• Keep a fund for emergencies, building it little by little
• Set a limit for leisure spending and stick to it
• Review your active subscriptions and cut the extra ones
• Pay the outstanding bills before they are due
• Compare spending against your plan to spot the gaps
• Review the end of month balance and adjust the next one

How it works in Foco

A reminder at the start of the month nudges you to sit down and budget, and another at month end to review the balance. On each task you keep the figures in a text note or dictate by voice "spent eighty on groceries" so you do not lose the number while you are at it.
