A new person's first week weighs far more than it looks: if the laptop is not ready, if nobody introduces them to the team, or if they do not know who to ask, they start feeling like they are in the way, and that impression is hard to undo. Most stumbles in early days are not about attitude, they are about organization.

This template gathers everything to have ready before they arrive and everything worth doing during their first few weeks, so the experience is the same with every hire and does not depend on how busy the team happens to be that month. It suits those who hire occasionally and want to forget nothing, and teams that onboard often and need a repeatable process.

First day and first weeks

These are the steps the template brings, in the order it makes sense to run them:

  • Prepare equipment and access before day one
  • Create accounts and permissions in the tools
  • Send welcome and first-day agenda
  • Introduce the team and key people
  • Walk through tools and internal processes
  • Assign a buddy for questions
  • Set clear first 30-day goals
  • Schedule a one-week check-in
  • Review questions and how they feel at the end of month one

How it works in Foco

On import, Foco creates the "Onboarding" job with these tasks in the List view, grouped by date to separate day-one items from the following weeks. It is best to duplicate the job per new hire so each person has their own path.

Assign each task to whoever prepares it (IT sets up access, the manager sets the goals), add reminders for the one-week and one-month check-ins, and leave any role detail as a voice note without leaving the task.
