One on one meeting

The one on one is the standing slot where a manager and a report sit down to talk about what is really going on: how the workload feels, what is holding them back, where they want to be in a few months. Done well and done regularly, problems surface early and small instead of blowing up late and large.

Without an agenda, these meetings turn into a task status update or get canceled the first busy week. This template fixes the topics worth covering every time, from mood to career growth, so the conversation stays useful even when you arrive rushed or tired.

The weekly script

These are the points the template brings, meant to be walked through in order, starting with the person and ending in agreements:

• Ask how they feel this week, before diving into tasks
• Review the action items from last time and check what got done
• Go over current priorities and their progress
• Surface blockers and obstacles you can remove yourself
• Talk about workload and pace, so you can adjust in time
• Give concrete, recent feedback with a clear example
• Ask for feedback on your support as a manager
• Discuss growth and career goals over the longer term
• Agree on the next steps with an owner and a date
• Note topics for next time that were left open

How it works in Foco
